I was just looking over Louis Lortie's concerto repertoire list. It includes (not limited to):

All of Beethoven's Piano Concertos (5)
All of Brahms's Piano Concertos (2)
All of Chopin's Piano Concertos (2)
All of Liszt's Piano Concertos (3)
All of Mendelssohn's Piano Concertos (2)
All of Mozart's Piano Concertos (27)
All of Rachmaninov's Piano Concertos (4)
All of Ravel's Piano Concertos (2)
All of Tchaikovsky's Piano Concertos (3)

Plus, all of the other piano "concerto" compositions of Chopin, Liszt, Rachmaninov, Mendelssohn, and Schumann (Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, Totentanz, Hungarian Fantasy, etc.)

Grieg's Piano Concerto
Schumann's Piano Concerto

And some more...

LL certainly is one of my favorite living pianists. He not only plays a large repertoire. He plays almost everything so well.

A side note: in today's concert scene one almost has to have a sizable repertoire like LL's to stay in the cut-throat competition. It's not uncommon for professional pianists to maintain a concerti repertoire around 40-60 major works.

This repertoire is probably what he can and will play if contracted by a sponsor in a particular city.

If any of these pianists are contracted to play -- say, a particular concerto -- you will be sure there will be considerable practicing and "freshening up" the material.

It is doubtful if he could play most of these pieces mistake-free if given very short notice-- e.g., 15 minutes.

I could prepare a long list also if I could be sure I would have an advance preparation time of weeks or months. That's the way city orchestras contract their guest performers.

Having mastered a piece once, it will come back rather quickly, I have found. There are Chopin waltzes I have not played in a year, but give me a couple of days and I could have them ready. (At least, played as well as I can, which is not always so superb, I'm afraid.)

This is just my own effort to respond. Not to take anything away from LL or from you posting, which is quite interesting really.

Don't be fooled, her playing is underwhelming.

I hope so... if she could play all of that really well, too, then I guess I'd just have to kiss her feet.

I can't understand why Birit bothered to learn some of those works. All of Liszt's Beethoven symphony transcriptions? And then she transcribes two of Brahms' symphonies herself?! And her listing of Scarlatti sonatas makes no sense:

Sonatas Op. 11
Sonatas Op. 19
Sonatas Op. 23
Sonatas Op. 25
Sonatas Op. 33 to 36

I don't think that Lortie can actually play all those work complete by memory, if you asked him.
Repertoire often means that, the work is still in the fingers and can be picked up very easily. Sometimes just in a few days..

All these years i thought you would have to have it ready to play off the top of your head...No wonder i felt embarassed when i was sharing my repetiore with friends as many lists over a dozen while at the time, i was able to play 5-6 performance-ready pieces and only considered those in my rep.

My teacher only considers pieces that are memorized. If it if it is wonderfully played with the score, if it is not memorized, it doesn't go on her repertoire list.

Man, D, you're at your best again, degrading absolutely wonderful people. I suppose YOU can play the Rach 1?

Anyway - You know what's scary about Idel Biret's repertoire?

There's lots of composers I haven't even heard about in my entire life! Am I THAT behind, or do you know like everybody on that list?

*laughs* No, I have never even seen the score. Just a joke for a joke's sake. ;\)

jazzyd has it right: Ian Pace has by far the most extensive solo repertoire of any pianist that I know of. He plays it all, including the very most challenging pieces ever written. I have yet to figure out how he does it!

His concerto repertoire is also very solid.

Monty Python would tell you it was fear.

Well, fear and surprise.

Fear, surprise, and a fanatical devotion to the Pope. :p ;\)
