First Prize

Nancy Lee and Perry R. Bass Gold Medal
Cash award of $20,000
Performance attire provided by Neiman Marcus
International concert tours and career management for the three concert seasons following the Competition
Compact disc recording on the harmonia mundi label
Contribution towards domestic and international air travel on American Airlines during the three-year concert tours
Silver trophy cup
And I think it's really cool how all the finalists get the "International concert tours and career management for the three concert seasons". [/b]
I thought I heard that everyone got US tours except the gold medal winner who got an international tour.

Guess who has all of Kobrin's performances recorded + many others?

Yep, me!!! *hint hint*

Has anyone been able to get the audio files on the dfw.com multimedia section to work? If so, what software and what version # were you using to open it?

The files are listed as being Realmedia files when I try and open them, but then I get a message saying that Realplayer doesn't have the software available to play them and that no downloads of the required software are available.

The audio files on that site are just mp3. I downloaded most of them. You can open them using iTunes.

Here is the one for the semifinal recital of Chu Fang Huang.
http://www.dfw.com/multimedia/dfw/news/cliburn/files/cliburnAudio/huangSemiRecital.mp3
The others have similar names, eg. saChenFinal.mp3, kobrinPrelim.mp3, etc.

Alternatively, it looks like their streaming multimedia page is up again at

http://www.dfw.com/multimedia/dfw/news/cliburn/cliburn.html

(click at the bottom left where it says "listen to every note of each performance", though as of yet only the recitals are up there). It seems to be working much better than last week.

Would anybody happen to have a written transcript of Van Cliburn's awards ceremony speech?

Guess who would absolutely love you if you would be so kind as to pass them on?

Sorry to raise this from the dead, but they stopped hosting the recital recordings online, and I'm still missing a few. I need 4 of the semifinal recitals and 3 of the final recitals.

If one of you who downloaded everything could kindly PM me... \:\)

2. (tied) Panayis Lyras, USA
Santiago Rodriguez, USA
4. Jeffrey Kahane, USA
5. Christopher O’Riley, USA
6. Da Ming Zhu, People’s Republic of China
Was this because of the Cold War or something, or were the US competitors actually good enough to clean house? If so, good show. ;\) [/b]
The first prize for this year was a mistake, IMHO. He is a chamber musician not a great soloist. It's no surprise we do not hear him much since.

Silent - you have to do the work. Let me know specifically which ones you're missing and i'll see what I can do.
