Hi
I am having a part-time regular teacher because of my odd hours reason. I also try to find another teacher at the moment and one whom I speak to give me a pretty strict and rigid "screening test" basically saying that, if I can't sight-read the piece at a particular level X, then I can't be learning at level X and he won't be able to help me. In another word, if I expect to study at the Diploma level then I am expected to be able to sight read the piece at that same level .... man I can't do it with sight reading easily.
Is he the right teacher for me ?
Thanks

well, he is not my teacher yet. He didn't mention anything about a standard sight readable piece either, but just making a pretty general statement as such. I guess the expectation is that if I were to study with him, I should be able to sight read a very large % of pieces at the Diploma level quickly, which I think may not be uncommon after talking to a few friends.
