Does anyone have any tips on how to practice the left hand passage in the section before the coda (I think they are bars 188-190 and 196-198)? These are the measures where the left hand plays the B with the fifth finger, and the 3rd finger and thumb play the F# or A or G# or G natural. Similarly for the left hand passage a few bars ahead where the fifth finger plays a C. For some reason I cannot get this up to speed without flubbing the left hand.

It could be a fingering problem. Depending on the preceding and the following notes (distance, black or white keys etc) I play the second note with the 3rd, the 4th and even with the 5th finger. Especially when you don't have very big hands the 5th might be a good solution because this makes it easier to employ the rotation of your forearm.

I've been casually sight-reading this only,
and have not tried to start pushing and
work it up to speed. I can reach a 10th
fairly easily with the lt. hand, and I'm an
advocate of the "coin-on-the-back-of-the-hand"
style of playing, that is, playing "from
fingers" primarily and trying to limit
the movement of other parts of the body.
With that in mind, the most comfortable
way to finger this would seem to be,
for bars 188-190: 121313 121313 121313
121313 131313 131313, that is, employing
a kind of "sliding, 2 to 3, finger transfer"
technique when advantageous. For bars
196-198: 131313 121313 121313 121313
131313 131313.

I can reach a 10th with my left hand, and the score indicates that I use the 3rd finger on the second note for all similar passages. I'm not sure whether using the 5th finger on the second notes is a good idea though. I'll have to try it first and see if it helps.
