These oldies are always interesting to dug up...
The last movement of Beethoven's Op. 109 has been mentioned at least twice. But what about the second (last) movement of Op. 111? It's no less sublime, especially the final variation.
Someone mentioned Schumann's varations/etude on Beethoven's 7th. Does anyone know the complete title or opus number? It's not part of the Symphonic Etudes, is it?

That particular Schumann set doesn't have an opus number. It's not really a concert work, I believe it was originally intended as a set of exercise-etudes. They are kinda neat, though! I have the Henle score and it simply says "Variations (Beethoven-Etuden)" Originally posted by Freeman:

Has anyone out there played Rach's. Variations on a theme of Correlli.
It is one of my favorite Rach pieces.
I played Lutoslawski's Paganini Variations years ago, and I love that piece.
If I had to name the "greatest" sets of variations, they would be Goldbergs, Diabelli, Pagannini (Brahms).
