Hi Charms! Those schools that you mentioned are very tough to get into. I've been playing piano for about 9 years and I don't even know if I could get into one of them. With only 1 year of experience, it will be very tough. What music are you playing now?

hey Amy
yeah i know, i'm probably way too ambitious.. *grimaces* i do have piano experience for a bit longer than a year, as i taught myself to play and read music, but anyways. i'm working on a haydn sonata, a beethovan sonata, golliwog's cakewalk by whats-his-face, and revolutionary etude by chopin.

Oh good! I thought you meant that you only started playing a year ago! About how long have you been playing then?

a determined learner can go very far with just one year of playing... it's not impossible.

nobody in particular->are piano scholarships awarded based on potential or level of achievement? i'm thinking the latter? like would they give me any 'brownie points' for taking lessons for just a year or anything?
Amy->what music are you working on?
jgoo->i'm out of cookies. how 'bout boston creme pie?
magnezium->very true, but what exactly did you mean by that? *slightly confused*

What about Grad schools? My piano teacher told me to start making the list of grad shcools i would like to attend...but i really don't have any ideas which ones would be good for piano pedagougy/performance, except for Temple univesrity..

Originally posted by charms: magnezium->very true, but what exactly did you mean by that? *slightly confused*[/b] erm... nothing much really... I only said that because Amy said one year of experience was quite little... which it is really... but I wanted to say that someone who has a great deal of determination can make very good progress in a year of playing... haha this really has quite little relevance to this thread... but I just thought I should mention it... I don't know why...

Originally posted by PianoMuse: What about Grad schools? [/b] i'm not sure about pedagougy, but for piano: University of Rochester aka Eastman School of Music, University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, Johns Hopkins University's Peabody Institute(they don't have pedagougy methinks), Curtis Institute of Music, Yale, New England Conservatory of Music, and of course there's always Juilliard (also more schools than these, just the top few). each of these schools have their own websites and stuff - if you'd like any links just let me know :-)
