Well, Debussy's preludes are very special to me. True masterpieces! I love them all! Book one happens to be my favorite. Prelude 1,2,5,6,10,11,12 of bk 2 -1,5,12 amung others. They are amazing!

Now, I think that Pollini truely shines on his disk playing debussy preludes bk 1. I would also recommend Zimmermann, very professional, perfectly shaded... the voice of the 21st century interpretation of these preludes! Richter has a few out that are amazing. My teacher just loves Michelangeli!

Osborne has a new version of the preludes that is supposedly quite good. I've got it on order. I'll let you know.

"La Cathedrale Engloutie" (The Sunken Cathedral) is one of my favorites. It's largely built on parallel 4th chords, and not too difficult at all. But the sonorities that come shimmering out of the piano are amazing...you feel a lot of power playing these simple chords softly, which I love.

These are among my favorite piano works too - especially Book I (if I am playing). If someone else plays the difficult preludes, I like to hear book II as well. laugh

Any opinions of Arrau's recordings?

I like Arrau's recordings. Especially because I found them on the cheap... they're my only copy. smile

I'm working on Ondine (bk 2 #8). It's... tough. But I love it.
