Now I know why I don't play piano as well as I'd like it. I don't live in Utah, the ultimate state for piano and pianists:

I am a piano teacher in No. Calif. There are a lot of Mormons here and believe me they are a piano teacher's dream students. They love music, they practice, they take lessons until they finish high school and go to college (usually in Utah or Idaho), where they continue to practice on the school's piano even if they are not music majors and then they want more lessons when they come home during vacations! I LOVE them!

Another point made in other coverage of the Brown's was that they have no TV or video games.

We have "TV free summer" at our house and so much more gets gone, in a much calmer atmosphere. Now if I just get another piano to take the place of the "box" we could be TV free forever YEAH!

I wondered, how on earth could they afford all this. Never mind the tuition (200+k/year!) But moving and renting another house, weekly flights, etc. Are they getting help from their church?

With their talent, I suspect tuition can be largely covered by various scholarships.

Also remember with no TV, there is no monthly cable bill, no monthly satellite tv bill, no VCR rentals, no video games to buy --> that can probably pay for a lot of other expenses!
