Can anyone recommend a good introduction piece by this composer? I was thinking about maybe the Fairy Tales or one of the Forgotten Melodies, perhaps no.1 of the Forgotten Melodies.

Any thoughts?

Oh, I am not asking anyone to tell me what to play, just wanting some opinions by people with more experience than I.

Thanks

Mike

For the concerti, I think you should start with the second, which is perhaps the most tightly structured of the three (as well as my personal favorite). The first is pretty good too, though somewhat rambling. The third is very rambling to my ears.
Amongst the sonatas, well there are a lot of them worth listening to, but check out the F minor Op. 5, the G minor Op. 22, the E minor Op. 25 #2, and the A minor Op. 30 (the last is my personal favorite).
He also has a lovely piano quintet.

Hmmm, well, almost everything of his is interesting in one way or another, so it's hard to pick. I'd recommend the op. 20, no. 1 skaska (fairy tale is the none-too-accurate English substitute). Or maybe no. 3 from the op. 26 set. Some of the others I particularly like are so difficult that I'd hesitate to recommend them as intros.
