I had some questions about the left hand arpeggios in Scriabin's Op.2 no. 1 etude. My question is, how many of the notes in the left hand arpeggio are to be played before the right hand begins? In the first measure, there are three arpeggiated notes in the left hand chord, in the second there are four notes, and again in the fourth measure there are 3 arpeggiated notes. All the arpeggios are at the beginning of the measure. Does anyone know how many notes are supposed to be played in the left hand before the right commences?

I don't know this particular Etude, but a general rule of thumb concerning arpeggios is that the right hand - in this case - would not begin until the arpeggio figure is complete, that is the right hand would begin on the last note of the arpeggio. In any case, the right hand would not begin during the arpeggio.

I'm familiar with that Etude, and I always hear it performed the way BrucD described it. Very beautiful piece, keep it up!

thanks for the input. I had a notion that was the way it should be played, but I wasn't for sure. It really is a nice piece.. who would have thought he had composed it when he was only 15?!
