I have come to realize that at this point in my career I need to go to graduate school to further my education. That said, I need to find some rep for my audition. Help!

When I left undergraduate I had ended with the Bach ebm prelude and fugue from book 1 and Chopin's 3rd ballade. The reason why it's a short list is because I graduated with a combined degree in performance and psychology, and 2 years were for psych and 2 years were for piano, although when I was studying piano I was required to do all the same things a piano major would have done. ("How long am I expected to practice?" I asked my teacher, who thought about it and replied, "I would say 3-5 hours a day.")

Graduate school auditions dictate that I must prepare a Mozart or Beethoven fast movement, a significant Romantic work, and a significant 20th century work. I'm well versed in my Baroque, classical, and romantic rep but I don't know too much about 20th century.

Currently I have decided to learn Bach's Italian Concerto, the Beethoven EbM (op. 31 no. 3), and keep my Chopin ballade. I've been looking at Debussy, Ravel, and Saint-Saens, especially Debussy's Estampes, but as to the rest I am completely stumped.

Does anyone have any suggestions for Impressionist or 20th century repertoire that's suitable for a graduate school audition? I'm shooting for the master's in piano pedagogy, not performance, though audition-wise it doesn't make a difference.

With the Italian Concerto, just make sure that all the schools will accept it since it doesn't have a Fugue.
Any of the three piece suites by Debussy are good, or L'Isle Joyeuse. Ravel's Sonatine or Jeux d'eau are ones by Ravel that come to mind.
Non Impressionist works could be: Bartok Suite Op. 14, I played Copland's Passacaglia for my auditions. It could be anything really, just listen to some recordings and go to the library to see scores.
As long as you have some substantial pieces like the Romantic or Classical Sonata then I think you can go with a smaller scale Contemporary work. What does your teacher suggest?

Some suggestions:

Shostakovich: Any one the more difficult Preludes & Fugues

Bartok: Suite, Op. 14

Ginastera: "Danzas Argentinas"

Prokofiev: 3rd Piano Sonata or the Toccata

Messiaen: a selection from "Vingt regards sur l'enfant-Jésus"

Copland: "Passacaglia" or "Variations"

Dello Joio: "Sonata #3" "Capriccio on the Interval of a Second"

Lieberman: "Gargoyles"

Oh, I've done some Ginastera before and liked it, so I'll look into the Ginastera. Thanks, DameMyra, for the suggestions.

Apianonne, I currently do not have a teacher, but I do plan to find myself at least a coach soon so I can polish.
