Hardly used, no scratches, only used as a show piano.

Buyer CT! Why would I ask what's great for the seller?

The serial number is: 5857. What year is this please?

I'm going to make an offer, but I'm just checking what year this piano was built. Since there has been sooooooo many upgrades, I'd like to know what I'm buying.

Thanks

It's 2002. But you already stated that it is a 2002 Estonia...?

A 2002 190 was probably purchased new for a price in the high teens - maybe the low twenties on a good day for the dealer.

Thanks, just confirming. It'll be the first time I play an Estonia. I'll keep you posted. The person selling bought it for his daughter and they're having to lighten their debt load.

MarKey,

Mine was built in September 2002 so No. 5857 was late in 2002.

Of the 90+ changes, my guess is almost 90 of them were minor wink

I believe they changed the scale in the late 90's for some issue with inharmonicity that affected tuning and drove a lot of tuners nuts. It's like the ~5th overtone in the bass requiring an amount of stretch that makes tuning a compromise, for example. Some of this stuff was on the PTG site a loonng time ago.

What a 2000-2002 is worth is interesting since the price has risen so much. If the seller knows what they currently sell for (and they should on such an investment, lets not be fools), then holding out for what they paid (17-22k), is perfectly reasonable, IMO. If you want it and can't find a new one for less than, say 25k (I have NO idea what they are available for, today), then I would urge you not to preoccupy yourself with what they paid and simply negotiate based upon what the savings are worth to you.

Estonia owners who preach the "no investment" approach are now free to wipe that grin off their faces smokin

What do you mean Norbert.

Chris, the 2002 model is not the same as the current 2007, so comparing a new model is not comparing apples and apples. They are different pianos and have only improved. If there were no changes or only a few minor, then your logic would be correct. Not like in many brands for example Baldwin. If I were to compare a 2001 Baldwin with a 2007, then that would be apples and apples. A 2002 Estonia to a 2007 is apples and oranges.

I thought the 'bad rumours' about Estonia by possibly as early as next year are wide spread by now.....

".........Estonia owners who preach the "no investment" approach are now free to wipe that grin off their faces"

I purchased my Estonia because I love the piano and its price point. But the one thing that will NEVER happen is wiping the smile off my face everytime I sit down to play it. My 190 sounds better and better with each passing day.

My serial number is 5824 and the warrantee date is Nov. 25, 2002, so the one you listed is VERY late 2002 or maybe even early 2003 finish date. I would have guessed early 2003 if you hadn't already said 2002.

We can estimate the owner probably bought it for the high teens (say $19K plus tax). Some paid less. Others paid more. Continuous improvement aside, considering the price increases over the last five years, if I were selling mine I'd want every penny out of it I paid for it.

Thanks Gryphon, but the Estonia of 2007/08 is not the same as the 2002 piano. The price increased because of improvements. It doesn't make sense that you could ask more money because the price increased and IT'S NOT THE SAME PIANO!

The 2002 Estonia was not even close to a Tier One Piano, but...the 2007 is...

There's a 2007 Estonia for sale in Pianomart and he's asking 19k for it. What a deal!!!

If there are any Dealers wanting to sell a new 2007 for low 20's to me, pm me!!! yippie eek

Not that it really matters, but the 2002 Estonia was at or near the upper half of Fine's Group Two, where the 2007 model is today. Fine's supplement gave Estonia (already in Group 2) additional stars in several categories during the 2004-05 timeframe, based partly on improvements made over the previous few years.

The price has increased for several reasons including exchange rates. It's true that there's been some improvement, but much of that was already present in the 2002 model, particularly in the 190, which saw changes before the 168.

Price increases due to quality don't happen immediately - it takes time for a reputation to create the demand.

It does matter Sir. I would like to know what the main upgrades were since 2002. Does anyone know?

PW member Ori is probably the best source here for such details. An email to the company might also be useful (see www.estoniapiano.com). But if you like the 2002 piano and you know approx. what it sold for, things that happened after it was built aren't relevant to that purchase.
