Has anyone ever seen a pianist live at Carnagie Hall? I want to go see one sometime. Would that be the best place to go? I'm not all that far from NYC. Who are some good people to see?

There are lots of great places to see great pianists in the city. Carnegie Hall is certainly a very special hall with a grand history. You might also want to check out the various events at Lincoln Center. Both are online, and you can see what concerts are scheduled for whenever it is that you're planning to visit.

Carnegie Recital Hall and Avery Fisher Hall are other two major locations. Browse the Sunday New York Times Arts & Music section should give you a pretty good idea as what you can expect for the coming week. You probably also have the 96th St. Recital Series. I'm not sure of the exact title for it. I haven't had my morning cup of coffee yet...

"Carnegie Recital Hall" is now called "Weill Recital Hall" --its name was changed in the mid-80's following renovations. All the same, you 'll find a link to Weill events on the Carnegie Hall webpage. As for the Lincoln Center's Avery Fisher Hall (and Alice Tully Hall)--ah, well, just go to the Lincoln Center page.

I've often found this site helpful:

I've seen pianists at Carnegie Hall, one solo (I can't remember who it was--years ago) and one with orchestra playing a Mozart concerto (again, can't remember who it was! Golly.)

Merkin Concert Hall (at the Lucy Moses School) is also a nice place for recitals.

Most famous I've seen? Hm. I think that would be Alicia De Larocha (and come to think of it, that was at Carnegie Hall with the NY Philharmonic) and Ruth Laredo at Mannes.

Alicia de Larocha will be closing out the Mozart festival this month. I forget which concerto --If you're a fan it may be something to check out.

A few weeks ago, I saw Emanual Ax and Yo-Yo Ma in concert at Tanglewood. Other than that, I've only seen some professors, college students, and other highschool students.
