Hi, I need some genuine advice on Pleyel 131 model. One piano dealer who have lower model of Pleyel told me that the reason why they don't bring in Pleyel 131 model is because there are some regulatory problem with keys. When you depress a key, it takes some movement beyond before the hammer moves. Anyone 131 owner out there or expert, is this true?

SP,if it is true, then the action needs a minor adjustment called lost motion. If you really have to depress a key more than 1/16" before the hammer moves, then you really, really, \:D need to adjust for lost motion!

The Pleyel 131 is an absolutely awesome piano and the dealer is just full of it.

He's too chicken s... to put the model on the floor for fear of not getting his price in the end,or simply can't get this particular model at this time for whatever reasons.

Having a complete Renner mecanic you better ask him what the hell a regulation problem would be with that.

Besides, even the French send out their pianos in top shape.

It's their foreign ministers and ambassadors that need a little help these days,though..... \:D

The dealer is just telling you stories to convince you to buy what he wants you to buy. Any piano can need the kind of adjustment he says. In fact all pianos *will* need it sometimes.

Regards,

Rick Clark

What the dealer said was that lower model Pleyel does not have that problem but he found out that new 131 model has this problem. Hence he did not bring in. Perhaps he just want pple to buy the lower model?

The 131 whomps the 125, IMO, and the 125 ain't shabby, none-a-tall.

Find another dealer.

You must never, never (etc.)..... never believe anything bad a dealer or salesman tells you berating a piano he doesn't have to sell. They have much practice in doing that sort of thing. They think it helps them sell more of the pianos they have (and they may well be right!)

Yeah, right. I am in agreement with everyone else, if a dealer needs to sell you a piano by making snide comments about the competition, my instinct is to flee, quickly!

I have the notorious 131 sitting in my living room. I have had 3 techs out (2 "professionally," one is a new friend who was curious to see the piano, having never seen one).

All 3 gave it glowing reports, and in the case of my tech friend, he's one of those crotchety types who wouldn't tell me what I wanted to hear in order to "be nice."

It's the best upright I played in its price range-- so I bought it!

Nina

PS: I've had the piano for 2.5 years now (I think, maybe just 2...?), moderately played. It's been tuned 4 times, and I voiced the upper 16 or so keys. I had to re-adjust the damper pedal mechanism, which had slipped a bit. No regulation problems, no nada.

Nina, thanks for your "certification" as a owner of a 131 model.

By the way, does anyone of you point the difference between a Pleyel 124 and a 131? Is it worth spending about US$1.1K to pay for a 131 model?

I'm with Norbert, I based my decision solely on sound.

I'm not sure of the specs on the 124-- once I played the 131, it was "mine"! I personally thought the sound was worth 1K -- but of course that would be a decision you'd have to make based on your ears and your checkbook.

Nina

PS: Before you decide, play something (or have someone play so you can hear) that has big, bass-y chords. I tried out the promenade from Pix @ an Exhibition, and the quality of the bass just blew me away. YMMV, of course.
