Has anyone discovered why Sheet Music Archive

This is true! As for why they are free -- probably an advertising gimick, among other reasons. If they give you a free sample and you like their service, then maybe you'll pay for a full subscription.

Thanks Bassio ... left out the "no" longer free ... it's good to know the archive is still
accessible ... but why in the Dickens does my
computer keep throwing up the signal
"file daily limit exceeded" when I haven't reached the download.

If any clever bloke out there can tell me which computer button I have inadvertently stomped to be left out in the cold ... and can tell me how to
get back on line ... I owe him a cold beer.

I experienced that very thing last week and, eh-hemm, found a way to solve it, so to speak ;\) Try clearing your temporary internet files and cookies. Worked for me.

Oh, and make mine an Erdinger Hefeweizen! \:D

How about some cookies to go with that cold beer? That's how the website works -- when you go there to download something, it saves a little file called a "cookie" on your computer with the date and time and how many downloads you've made. When that cookie says no more, the website won't let you download any more. Every morning, any cookies from that website expire so you can download again (only until the new cookie says no more again).

In your preferences, you might have "turned off cookies" -- if so, you can turn them back on. Another idea is to go in your web preferences, and open up a list of all the cookies on your computer -- you probably won't see chocolate chip or oatmeal raisin, but delete the ones from sheetmusicarchive.net.

So, the thing does this other thing with the thingy that puts the thingy on your doohicky. To get rid of the thingy from your doohicky, go to that stuff over there, click on this shmutz over here, delete the thingys, and the first thing should let you do your second thing on your doohicky for free again.

How's that. \:D

Thanks chaps and especially PJ.

So darn easy when you know how ... by the way the reward just went up to a half-pack ... so any time
you want to pop over and share a cold beer ... might even russle up something more appetising than a cookie ... how about a South African braaivleis (barbecue in US lingo) ... and under sunny skies ... can't promise Tina a Erdinger Hefeweizen however... but you won't be disappointed with a Heineken.

Thanks ghost for the http://imslp.org/wiki/Main_Page ... which is now
listed amongst my "Favourites".

Had to remind myself where the blazes Essex fitted
in to the London surroundings ... had digs in
Wimbledon and somehow never steamed off on my
BSA motorbike in a north east direction ... about as far as I got was Basildon when we visited a school designed by our architect boss Sir Basil Spence... wish I had visted Chelmsford and Colchester ... must be dairy country if the name is the origin of the brand of cheese?

We Africans must unite Bassio ... there are you paddling in the Mediterranean Sea while I am 3,800 miles to the south in a magical world of
wild animals ... a tourist mecca.

Thanks Liszt from Bulgaria ... had to re-log on with Piano Forum (name and password hassle) ... it would appear that the pianoworld google doesn't take kindly to being dismissed ... all the other systems are working fine.

Did anyone notice this wonderful Caprice-Valse by Ricardo Castro (1864-1907, Mexico City) posted yesterday at IMSLP?

The section starting at the bottom of page 4 at ff is gorgeous.

I'd never heard of Ricardo Castro before.

O.K. Now I am having a problem with Sheet music Archives. For the past week I have been trying to download some music and all I get is the message that I have exceeded the 2 per day limit. I have not downloaded anything this week and am really puzzled. Been trying all week to download, but all I get is the same message. What is going on?

Tried to follow the directions about going to "preferences" and fixing it that way, but don't know how to find "preferences." Gaby Tu

I had the same problem the other day, I haven't dowloaded anything there for a while because I use IMSLP now and I got that message as well.

Tried again today, but got the same message. Don't know what is going on unless they have decided no more free downloads.

It's another sheetmusic website that has tons more music than the archive and there is no limit on the downloads. Check it out

Where I used to always get 2 free there, they now are saying I've used up my 2 for 3-4 days after now.
And for the past 2 weeks, they've only allowed one; temp. files or no temp. files.
(Just because they still say "2 free", seems really to not be the case anymore.)

Try http://www.pianopiano.org

You get a lot of free music (mainly pdf files) and you can share yours if it's in the public domain.

Cheers.

For months now I have been totally unable to download any music from the Archives. Get the same message, that I have exceeded my limit.

Sent them an email--no reply.

A friend came over and got rid of my cookies and that did not help. So. I have given up on them.
It was nice while it lasted. Gaby tu.
