First of all, let me introduce myself. My name is Isaac Yates, I'm 22 (just graduated college), I live in Northern Virginia, and this is my third day on this forum; I think I'll stick around for a while! (everyone seems pretty friendly)

Anyway, I know it might be hard to choose one, but what are your all's FAVORITE piano piece to play (and why, if you want)?

Mine would have to be Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata...simple, but oh so gorgeous! \:\)

Welcome to the forums. You will be a 1000 Post member by next week at the rate you're posting.

Anyways, for me it's Chopin's Ab Polonaise op53. It is showy, loud, and fun. When you play it, you can really express a lot of emotions, plus it is an uplifting piece.

Right now, given that my repertoire is essentially microscopic, it'd have to be Scriabin's op. 2 no. 1 etude or, perhaps, John Field's Rondo in Eflat major (the 2nd movement of his...1st sonata? I'm not sure).

I enjoy playing Rachmaninoff etude tableaux op.39 no.1 And also enjoy playing chopin's third etude. The same with the 2 last movements of his second sonata.

I like the first movement of Schumann's Faschingsswank right now. It's FUN!

I'll second that. It is lots of fun to play, which is unusual for Schumann. Tha last movement is fun to play too.

I quite like Clementis Opus 26 No. 5; I think the piece is really lively and has a few cunning twists in it, If only I could play it up to speed....

Bach's 2-part invention 13 currently, which i have been playing for quite a while and yet it never ceases to challenge me. i play it fast or slow, although never could play as fast as Gould could, and in the end, i still don't feel that i have completely conquered this piece. so, i stop trying, but play it almost everyday just as an exercise or warm up, and i guess i would stay with it for a while...

another piece i'd like to play a lot lately is Fur Elise, which took me a week to learn its B section but it is taking 4 or 5 times longer to polish the whole piece. but to me it is fun to play.

plus, Tempest's 3rd movement, still learning it though...

But, L'isle Joyeuse is getting easier too. Chopin Prelude #23 is quite fun as well.

Scriabin's Poème Op. 32 No. 1 and Mozart's sonata K. 570 even though I butcher them horribly.

And yeah, all those stupid movie and TV themes are surprisingly fun to play by ear.

Chopin's Prelude Op28 No 10 C# minor. It's short, fast and furious but also mixed with emotion and serenity.

I am currently learning and enjoying, Chopin's Prelude Op. 28 No. 15 as well.

one of my favorite beethoven sonatas, but i don't really feel ready to play any serious beethoven. i used to play the little sonata in g major but i forget the opus.
as for my favorite to play i think it's probably Debussy's Doctor Gradus ad Parnasum(or something like that). it's not very long and it feels good on the fingers. it's somewhat of a crowd pleaser too.
my 2nd favorite but most played is Brahm's g minor rhapsody from op79.

I really like playing Chopin's Op.64 No.2 waltz, it has a really nice flow to it and the intro is a bit on the dark side which i like.

valarking,

You are quite young if I remember correctly.

Do you eat, sleep and drink music and have you done so since before birth or something?

Your knowledge of, and exposure to music blows me away!

No disrespect intended, just the opposite!

ooooo I love Griegs concerto in A minor, I can only play bits and pieces of it, but it has been my favorite since i was about 12.

As far as fun for me to play? It all depends on what i am working on. Right now I would Say Mozart's Rondo Ala Turka, fav part of the movement is the broken octaves. Gives my hands a work out and makes me feel like i have accomplished something!

the mozart rondo was one of the earlier pieces i learned. but for some reason that broken octave part still bothers me. fatigue-wise anyways. my technique really progressed since i first played it but i think playing that part my muscles go back to the poor habits i was using then. who knows. fun to play tho! i just gotta work on my broken octave stamina cuz it still sucks.

I adore Chopin's Etude op. 25 No 7 and Etude op. 10 No 6...

Am currently playing Bach-Busoni's "Ciacona" in d minor – it’s a fantastic piece, so dramatic, powerful, intellectual and emotional at the same time. Also played Bach’s Fantasy and Fugue Chromatique, well, am simply in love with Bach right now…

I would also like to say that I love playing Chopin's 3rd prelude, as it works out my left hand without tiring it.
I remember I had to play Maple Leaf Rag right after it at a recital and my left hand was pretty much shot afterwards. \:D

i love that piece by yoko kanno. i listen it all the time at school when I get bored.

She's one of my favorite composers.

As for my favorite piece to play. My own versions of "isn't she lovely" by stevie wonder, "what i'd say" by ray charles, and "the girl from ipanema". Classical wise, I like Chopin's Ballade no. 1 and also mozart's rondo from concerto no 10, k333, the arrangment i did so i could play that piece for one piano.

I love playing the final movement of Moonlight sonata. Its fast, flashy and is very moving. I wish I could play it really well.

Well..you're not the only one who's playing it.. \:\) I think the 2nd movement is very beautiful! At the beginning I had some difficulties with the 1st movement. It just didn't seem to be "my piece" but now it's much better I think.

i absolutly-hands down love the Moonlight Sonata Movement no. 27 in C# Minor, by Beethoven. it has a haunting, moody arrangement, but is tricky and catchy to play, yet it's one of the easiest and slowest classical pieces to play. but i don't recommend it to begginners, but to the intemediate-advanced players who can read sheet music like nobody's business. [i.e., i only can play the first measure of the song.] -alicia*

Pianodevo - I used to love playing Dedication esp towards the end! I placed 2nd in a competition a few years ago when 30 people of my age played the same exact piece. I'm proud of that accomplishment to this day. What a fun piece of music.

As of now, I'd have to say Beethoven's Pathatic all 3 movements. I esp love the 3rd because it's so energetic.

Ditto. I love playing this one. Unfortunately, it is rather overplayed and I recently heard some little ***** of a kid rush through it at double tempo missing more than half of the notes AT A RECITAL. WTF was his teacher THINKING??? Idiots... [/b]
Is that the kid that was making fun of you? [/b]
Exactly.

Rachmaninoff Etude-Tableux op. 39, no.8. I learned it awhile back, but I still play it all the time.

Its Rach Prelude op.32 #1, only recently learnt it, but for Rach it's surprisingly nice on the fingers.

I love playing Faure's Barcarolle no 1. It's simply magical, and it's a big favourite with my friends too. And Pagodas from Estampes too, love the Orientalism, and it's a hit among my friends too.

The Barcarolle is pretty quick and easy to learn for me to learn. I actually managed to get the notes down surprisingly in one week few months last year. Anyway, if you are feeling more gutsy, I recommend Barcarolle no 2, which I think is more beautiful and much larger in scale than the 1st. I just performed Faure's Nocturne no 1 and no 4 last Sunday, and no 4 is another of my favourite to play.

Chopin Nocturne in Bb minor, Op. 9, No. 1 is my current favorite. Maple Leaf Rag is a lot of fun, too.

Debussy Pour le piano

Also, Beethoven Op.109 and Op.110 but I've only learned the first movements for now.

I've always liked the Capriccio from Bach's Partita No. 2 in C minor. Makes me happy every time I hear it or (try to) play it. It's no longer up to "recital standards" \:\(

Yes, Op.28 has long been a favorite of mine, I find it's also much harder than it looks - especially the second movement.

The Rhapsody In Blue and the Chopin Ab Polonaise always give me a kick to play, even after many years. One or two of my own earlier pieces have stood the test of time in this regard too.

Oh, I will add Chopin's Ballade no. 1 op. 23 to my list of favorite pieces to play (the other was his Polonaise in A-flat major, op. 53).
