I'm learning rootless 4-note voicings for the right hand. Specifically, a 3-5-7-9 voicing for a major seventh chord -- same for a minor seventh chord.

Concerning fingering: Should I finger the major seventh as 1,2,3,5 instead of the more natural-feeling 1,2,4,5 so that it will be consistent with the fingering for the minor seventh?

Thanks,

I've used both and to be perfectly honest, I rarely think about fingerings anymore. If you use correct form and keep your fingers parallel to the keys at all times, the correct fingering will come automatically. Sorry to give a non answer but there is some truth to that previous sentence.

There are also (at the keyboard) 12 major and 12 minor seventh chords, so you probably won't be using the same exact fingering for all of them, right?

Totally doesn't matter.
