So anyone else planning on some big musical goals for 2004?

Mine =

1. Continue hacking away at Chopin's Etudes. 2 down, working on 4 and will continue from there. At least playable, not necessarily memorized and ready for an audience.

2. Dig into Bach, first and foremost his WTC.

1.)Learn a serious work (ballades, etudes, anything challenging)

2.)Develop good practising and playing habits

3.)Compose, compose, compose!

I really want to get music theory under my belt.

I have a deathly fear of it (I did so poorly with it throughout college), and so now I want to try to master it before I go into grad school.

By the way, does anyone know any good textbooks that might help me with music theory (with a CD attatched- I am horrible at the aural part of the theory- writing down intervals, chords, etc.)?

After Campanella, I plan on learning at least a couple other Liszt Etudes, as well as a few Chopin Etudes (I'm beginning verrry slow work on the "thirds" etude now, just to start a little something before January). I also want to do some larger pieces for actual repertoire (ie, not just etudes) for recitals, like Googlism. I want to explore Schubert's impromptus and possibly sonatas. Finally, I'd like to finish a concerto for competition which I will need to have done about this time next year. I was thinking Liszt Eflat major, but there's also Saint-Saens no. 3 and I'm even interested in Soshtakovich F major, though I'm not sure if it's on the acceptable repertoire...
There are probably a few more things I've dreamt about, but you know...

Must be something in the air! I too plan on working my way through Chopins Etudes, Op. 10 and Op. 25. This is something I have been putting off for years and years. But I have decided after Christmas, I would give it a go. I don't know if this will be a serious study of the etudes or a kind of laid back study. I'm thinking more of a laid back study. Perhaps spend a month on each etude than move on to the next. If there are any that really "speaks to me" I may spend more time on the etude.

Also I'm hoping to submit an outline for my thesis in music theory for my Masters Degree. The outline is due in March, but I'm hoping to have it by the end of January.

And I'm also hoping to add state of the art video and recording equipment to my studio. This may be put on hold for a while though, since I am extreamly technically challanged. But my fellow teachers asures me that it is all qute easy once you get everything installed. But we shall see.

Blessings

Ruth

I thought of a better one for myself (shame for not thinking of it earlier!! I knew I was forgetting something...): I will at least *attempt* to finish my work on the Goldberg Variations, if not then I plan to get VERY close to doing so.

Consolidate! I have lots of pieces that are not secure or memorized. I would like to really concentrate on firming up my repertoire and stop partially learning new pieces!
