I'm having trouble finding good music to play these days. Living 100 miles away from my nearest music shop doesn't help. I'm into Rock/Blues/Jazz all rolled into one (sorry it's the only way I can describe it)
If you could recommend some tunes (ABRSM (UK)Grade 7 or less) it would be much appreciated. \:\)

First off, I do not know what "ABRSM (UK)Grade 7 or less" means, but I will assume not too hard.

Also, I am confused about if you are looking for Rock/Blues/Jazz music or something that is not Rock/Blues/Jazz. Maybe you could be more specific and others will be able to provide you some better ideas.

For Rock/Blues/Jazz, you may want to learn some basic blues scales and then improvise your own melodies. This is very fun and educational. Many of these things use basic three cord patterns. I would recommend getting some information about Blues. If you are looking for more advanced stuff, then look into some Boogie tunes. These can be very difficult to play though. You can find alot of midi files of these types of songs on the web and then use a program like Cakewalk to look at or print some music. It won't be the easiest to read, but it works.

For other music, you might want to look at songs from the Big Band era like "In the Mood". Also Ragtime music can be very fun and challenging. There are whole music books of these.

For classical, there are better people than me to recommend what to play. However, you might want to get your feet wet with some Bach minuets. They are very recognizable and short, which makes them satisfying to learn.

Thanks for your help.

Grade 7 is 2nd highest grade before you must go to Uni.

Sorry I can't be more specific but any music that you enjoy playing is good enough for me! \:\)

Although we are mostly classical on this forum, I will give you some tips on a rock approach. What helps for me when I find myself in the position to have to play rock is first practice chords. Once you've got that down, throw in a little melody, but try to practice them as seperatly as possible until you feel comfotable enough to play them together. Try playing slow at first, them slowly speeding up to the intended speed. Also, it helps to try a simplified version of the song you are trying to play first. Then go onto the actual version. I do go about classical music in a different manner though. I only play rock when my dad wants me to play it for him. (He doesn't like classical very much, but I live by classical music and like it over every other music that there is).

Check out Billy Joel. He's been producing much new material for piano - classical or not.
