Hey everyone: which is your favourite Classical Music magazine? BBC Music Magazine or Gramophone?

As I come from and live in England I tend to favour the more "home-grown" style of BBC Music though I do find that the reviewers and editors dwell on similar artists for months on end (cue Roberto Alagna, Bryn Terfel, Evgeny Kissin, Alfred Brendel...etc).

[Oh, interesting side note: I've been to Alfred Brendel's house and wandered around it...a friend's father, who is an artist, knows Mr Brendel and after a concert I was allowed a quick walk-around - lovely place! Though he has another house in London, whereas this was in the lovely Dorset countryside...]

Gramophone is more objective in its reviews though I do like the marking systems evident in BBC Music and also I wonder why CDs are sometimes reviewed months after they are released in Gramophone?

Anyway: your thoughts people?

Well, BBC does come with a CD with sometimes exemplary performances. There was an all-Schubert issue a while back with an accompanying CD that had a divine performance of the f minor fantasy with Lupu and Periah, along with an equally fine B-flat trio.

I do wish that their reviewers were a little bit more objective from time to time, though...it seems like they'd rather strut their linguistic firepower as opposed to giving a more digestible review.
