As the title of the thread states, the
soirée musicale[1] scheduled for the end of June will not be taking place. The hostess and her family are leaving for Italy a few days ealier than expected, so the planned music-making will not be happening. This is a bit of a disappointment, as I have been working away at Rach 32/12 and Chopin Barcarolle for a while now, and was looking forward to meeting her (English) piano teacher chap and his pupils. It would have been the first time for quite a while[2] that I had played in front of an 'audience,' apart from immediate family, my teacher and our two cats.
Anyway, not to be deterred by this, we are now thinking of wheeling the piano across from its usual position into the centre of the downstairs living area, stocking the fridge with pinot grigio, lighting the barbecue, and inviting my teacher, a few of his pupils and some listening local friends for an informal afternoon recital of our own instead

[1] Which I mentioned
here [2] The last time in front of a paying audience was accompanying a choral group (for which I was also their rehearsal pianist) in early 1999 when we were still in England. The last time as a soloist was about 5 years before that, I think.
