I don't know about other people, but I'm often out looking at new pieces seeing if there's one I like. So, I thought I might start a thread for people to post there favorite pieces so that those looking to try something new can explore. For me, even though it's been a while since I've played it, I'm gonna have to say Mendelssohn's Rondo Capriccioso. It has a beautiful introduction. You can just pour out your soul into it. Then, the lively midsection reminds me of waterskiing. I don't know why, but I love water skiing. Also, It has a fantastic ending that will be sure to shock your audience even if they've heard it five times already.

Hey, you're working on Baba Yaga? that's my next piece after The Great Gates.
One of my favorites is Kabalevsky's Sonatina No. 2. Don't know why it's so little played.
I also like Chopin's C# minor nocturne posthumous.

I don't know what the meaning of life is- I'm too busy to figure it out.

My favourite piece for the time being is Beethoven's sonata Op.2 No.3 - esp. the 1st and 2nd movements

Look at the 1st movement - very nice
esp. this 2nd calm theme - very elegant .. elegance by definition

Look at the 2nd movement - esp. the part where it contains arpeggio like accompaintment in the soprano

again .. loneliness and melancholy .. with some sort of restraint .. again Elegance by definition

I ought to discover more Beethoven these days

Beethoven's Appasionata, as a whole its the greatest work for solo piano ever in my opinion.
Only to be closely rivaled by Rachmaninov Sonata number 2.
Give that one a shot if you think you're a virtuoso!

For Beethoven it was Bach - For me, its Rach...the Idol

Rach's Paganini Rhapsody is pretty sweet, but for solo piano, er...maybe

Beethoven Op.109, which I regard as a better work than the Appasionata

Liszt Mazeppa or Chasse-Neige or GE10

Chopin Ballade 4

Ravel Miroirs

i thought i heard my washing machine playing Ondine

I've recently fallen in love with Granados' Allegro de Concierto smile
