I have Alicia de Larrochas recording of Albeniz' Iberia and Granados' Goyescas, and also Hamelins recording of Iberia. I have been listening to them a lot recently, and I'd like some more recommendations please!

I have that de Larrocha CD, it very nice.

Try Manuel de Falla's music. I have a CD set of his complete piano music by Ricardo Requejo.

Mompou. There is actually a set of his complete piano music played by the composer himself.

Get de Larrocha's recording of the Granados Danzas Espagnol. It's a wonderful CD!

And see if you can find Granados' own recording of his works, it's very interesting!

I think Granados's Orientale (on the CD Kreisler recommended) is one of the loveliest pieces of music I have ever heard.

Maleguena (sp?) is also beautiful.

I like Albeniz's Sevilla from Suite Espanole, also his Tango in D and Granados' Waltzes. These are good to learn on piano - everynote.com is a brilliant website for classical music. If not, mail me, I can send you a copy.

Yes Albeniz is great. I don't have any CD's of him, too bad.

Brillant Classics released a set of complete piano music by Mompou played by Mompou. You should get that set.

Granados... I have a set played by some guy called Rajna, never heard of. Nice music, certainly listen to his Spanish Dances.

Nights In the Gardens of Spain (De Falla) is good to listen to. For playing, Moskowski's Spanish Dances are fun (but I don't think he was Spanish). Then there's anything by Albeniz - again I don't think he was Spanish but it's got that Spanish feel. Ricuerdos de Viaje is beautiful and easy, and Cordoba is also excellent.

Also non-Spanish but Spanish sounding are the Saudades Do Brasil by Milhaud - 12 dances in 2 volumes. They are fabulous and deceptively difficult.

So, almost nothing I've mentioned is Spanish, but it all sounds Spanish...

Hello, I've been reading these forums forever, and i used to post a little...but lost my login, so i made a brand new one after seeing this thread...

i have to recommend Ernesto Lecuona! i have only recently come to discover and love this music. actually it's Cuban, and not Spanish.

here is a link where you can listen to samples.

Actually, this is a Volume 1 of a 5 Volume set, The Complete Piano Music by pianist Thomas Tirino. Have I been in the dark, or is this obscure? Tirino really does a wonderful job on Malaguena--but i am enjoying all the solo piano repertoire on this set.

I have all 5 volumes, and have listened to them, but presently only listen to the first 2...I can only take in so much. But then, I have something to look forward to!

I have set other projects aside, LOL, just so I can work on Cordoba, and Zambra Gitana. It has "breathed life" into my repertoire. I reccomend this set!

anyone know the Fantasia Baetica by de Falla? I played it a couple years ago, and it's MARVELOUS. It's not as hard as it sounds (unlike, say, Iberia or Goyescas, which are really hard), and it's fun. I've only heard one recording of it, and I can't recall who the pianist was. The piece was dedicated, interestingly enough, to Artur Rubenstein.

The most common Lecuona set is the Andalucia suite, which includes Malaguena as the final piece. But don't just get the CD, order the sheet music! They sound harder than they really are.
