A woman in town has asked me to play piano for her wedding. She wants piano only for most of the music, though a trumpeter is going to play the Trumpet Voluntary for the bridal march.

I have lots of suggestions for the pre-wedding, bridesmaids, mothers, etc., music ... but what kind of fanfare-type recessionals sound good on piano? I am tempted to get with the trumpeter and see if we can work something out. If not, then does anyone have suggestions?

The Hornpipe from Handel's Water Music Suite and Mendellsohn's Wedding March are two standbys for recessionals.

How about the "Hestitation Blues"?

Just kidding. It may be obvious, but how about the hornpipie from Handel's "Water Music"?

Perhaps there's a piano transcription of the Toccata from Widor's (5th?) Organ Symphony, that's a popular wedding tune.

And Liszt's Sposalizio would be apt, probably not as recessional music though. It's a lovely piece all the same.

Let the Bright Seraphim - Handel...

The Prince of Denmark, the Purcell, the Queen of Sheba, the Stanley, how about Meistersingers - ah the list is endless...

Indeed, I think the Hornpipe is better on the piano, Mendellsohn's Wedding March is better on the organ.
