Hi fellow members,
My name is Michael Yi and I am ex-president of Young Chang Amrerica Inc which is a sole distributor of Young Chang and Kurzweil in north America.
I am beginning to start my own musical instrument business and need to buy a few American made and German made used Steinway & Sons grand pianos. The used grand pianos I want are BEFORE refurbished. Are there any members giving me a tip on who to contact ?
Thank you in advance for your kindness.
Michael Yi

Hello Michael, and welcome to the Forum. Good luck with your new enterprise. I'm afraid your competition for used Steinways will be fierce. But,any way, best wishes.

Hi Michael, It sounds like you are already very familiar with the piano industry. I’m somewhat of a novice regarding pianos but as a matter of courtesy to you as a new member here I will offer my opinion. (By-the-way, welcome to the forum.) As VGrantano said, the competition for used S&S pianos in unrestored condition is probably stiff; so, chances are you will not be able to find a single source for this type of pre-owned pianos. Also, I would imagine that other piano dealers will be reluctant to reveal their sources to a possible competitor. Therefore, if I were you I would begin an advertising campaign in various piano related publications, websites (Craigslist, etc…) newspaper want ads and so forth stating that you are in the market to buy pre-owned S&S grand pianos in unrestored condition. Also, you can begin an extensive internet search for various classified advertisements offering used/pre-owned S&S grand pianos for sale. I hope this helps (but I’m sure you knew this already ). Best regards, Rickster

Hi Michael,
It is so nice to hear from you again.
[Michael was our wonderful host for a trip to Young Chang's factories in Korea and China a few years ago. He showed my wife and I, and a bunch of others from other major dealerships, a great time. I was also a consultant to YCA while Michael was President.]
The Internet is a reasonable source for used Steinways. You should check out the Piano World website for buying/selling pianos as well.
I wish you the best of luck in your new endeavor.

Hello Vince, Steve, Mr.Piano Enthusiast,
How are you guys ? It's been quite a long time since we met last time and hope everything goes well.
I am a little bit late in coming back to you due to the trip to other city.
Thank you for the tips on the SS pianos. But I still need to get unrestored German SS grands rather than NY... Any way to directly contact the source for time saving ?
Anyhow, it is good to get back to you guys like this. I have to say thank you for Piano World Forums.
Michael
