If I were to major in music history, what kind of job could I get? I don't really know much about it.

Usually there are people in the colleges who help you find jobs in your area. At least in my Community college there is someone who helps me out with music jobs. It's really awesome and she's incredibly dependable. So just wait until you take the class and ask your teacher or people at the college for advice. They'll most likely definetly help you out or be your connection to a job.

Glenn Gould in regards to music:

The problem begins when one forgets the artificiality of it all, when one neglects to pay homage to those designations that to our minds-to our reflect senses, perhaps-make of music an analyzable commodity. The trouble begins when we start to become so impressed by the strategies of ours systematized thought that we forget that it does relate to an obverse, that it is hewn from negation, that it is but a very small security against the void of negation which surrounds it.

I hate to be the fly in the ointment but having graduated with a masters in musicology I can say there are very few jobs you can get in music history. The main route is an academic one where you could try for a PhD and teach at a college or university level. But even there the jobs are few and far between. Given that arts are getting less and less funding, I just don't see the opportunities there. You can do what I've done which is to teach music history to children, but I've only found it to be supplemental income/work.

Why are you considering music history?
