OK, the third movement is done, off to do some math:

Movement 3:
File 1: 1961
File 2: 2132
File 3: 2306
File 4: 1806
File 5: 1688
File 6: 1867
File 7: 1949

Movement 3 total: 13709

That makes:

Total notes in Movement 1 (normal cadenza): 10664
Total notes in Movement 1 (ossia cadenza): 11285
Total notes in Movement 2: 4662
Total notes in Movement 3: 13709

(Drumroll, please...)

Total notes (normal cadenza): 29035
Total notes (ossia cadenza): 29656

Whew. What now?

No recounts!

However, I do plan to count the notes in a MIDI file of the work I found.

I expect, though, that the MIDI file will contain many MORE notes than is correct - remember a MIDI file will count every note of a trill, so while we counted trills as 2 notes, a trill in a MIDI file could be anywhere from 4 to 100 notes depending on the length of the trill.

If the MIDI number is within a decent range, though, I'll call our project a smashing success!

Thanks to all who undertook the project, this was fun!

An amazing result. Not the number, but that Kreisler could get you guys to count them all.

In average around 15 notes per second then - sounds reasonable.

Next question: How many notes did Rachmaninoff write in his life?
