Ok so this Friday I am visiting a college and I am trying to get a lesson or at least just an appointment with one of the professors. If I had a lesson what should I play? Something that I already know quite well to show them how I play or something that I can mostly play and use the lesson like I would my own teacher? What about if I just have an appointment? What kinds of things should I ask specifically? I need some suggestions of things that I need to look for in a school and professor.

hmmmmm...tis' a tricky one!
personally: i would perform to him (if you just happen to get a lesson or appointment!)
Perhaps play something you know well, which you play fluently with much ease etc.
That way he'll have a fresh idea of your playing!
You may even ask him to give comments and advice on your performance/playing..?

hope this helps!
i'll keep thinking for you...!?

Good-luck Amy

I would recommend playing something you know well. There are as many opinions out there as there are teachers, so I'm sure he/she will have some fresh ideas about what you play for them. Just because you know the piece doesn't mean you can't have a productive session with the professor. Good luck!

My teacher is a professor, too! When I played for her for the first time (2 years ago), she wanted to hear my whole repertoire! I was there for about an hour. She's not the only professional I played for. I think the personality of the instructor is very important. You will be much happier if you admire your teacher as a person and a pianist. My parents say, "You're very lucky to have such a wonderful teacher!" I thought the same, too! \:\)
