Interesting title, considering Schubert had syphilis... smile I'm almost curious to find out if that's woven into the plot somehow.

Hi, I'm new here and actually headed for the 'digital/keyboard' board, but had to jump in here!
The 'chick-lit' label fits, unfortunately; it's pure fluff. I picked it up hoping for some insight into Schubert, historical details, etc., but this book deals more with how the female character's hair looks, and what she's wearing. Good fun, but that's it. Wait for the paperback, and take it to the beach next summer.

Haven't read it. Are you starting it? Give a book report when through!

Has anyone read this:

Vikram Seth\'s "An Equal Music"

I'd give it a 3.5 out of 5. Seth is one of my favorite writers ever, and the writing in this book is beautiful. The plot (basically a romantic reminiscence) just didn't do it for me like his other books have. I'd recommend it, but I wouldn't grab you by the throat and force you to read it, like I would his other books.

There are several enjoyable passages about the day-to-day stuff of being a professional musician.

I haven't bought it. I may be too macho to allow myself to read it. It's tough being a guy and all.

But I did read The Art of Practicing which had some helpful advice, especially about playing for an audience.

C'mon! laugh laugh I read "High Fidelity," a prototypical "lad lit" book! Read it at night, or slip a plain brown wrapper on it!
