Hello. Im new to the forum and I've been playing the piano for about 8 years. I did not practice at all for the first 6 years and that got my piano teacher really mad but now I'm actually starting to enjoy playing and practicing the piano. But after seeing that I wasted 6 years I'm wondering about where I would be if I actually practiced and enjoyed playing from the beginning. Can anyone give me a rough estimate of the the difficulty of pieces that someone who has played piano for 8 years should be able to play? I feel quite ashamed when I tell people I've played piano for that long a time and have such a small repertoire of pieces that I probably could have been playing 4 years ago.

well, for the most part, it would depend on how hard you worked and how fast your teacher would be willing to advance you. you get out of piano what you put in, and some teachers dont like passing students too fast, while others put their students on difficult music quite quickly.

There's no predicting where you might be now had you worked diligently over those six "wasted" years; there are too many unknown variables in the equation.

Be grateful that you have finally "seen the light," and now profit from your new-found wisdom to make the most of the time that lies ahead of you.

Regards,

Well I haven't played a single Mozart piece. I've played a few Schubert pieces and I can play Prelude in C# minor and G minor. Those are the only things i can think of right now. Do you think this is ok for the number of years?

I can so relate to your case Infini_Dragon....stopped taking lessons when I was 16 at Grade #6....piano teacher was dissapointed with me..I never practiced.....been playing pieces here and there since then...nothing serious.....but now at the age of 29 and after reading the forum for a while, i really want to get back playing the piano and practice!! laugh but first i have to get myself a piano (long story...) until then i will just have to settle with reading threads... frown
