When our choir is on break, our church has guest musicians (usually one of our members) who fills in with a short musical piece. I have occasionally taken the bench for this in the past and so I'm always on the lookout for a short, interesting piece to learn. This past week I heard a very nice 2-minute or so piece on an old "Piano Classics" tape my wife has had for several years... and the more I played it, the more I fell in love with it and was convinced this was going to make a great piece for the church. But the stupid tape didn't have the names of the works on it and we no longer had the original cassette box!! Argh!

When I got home I figured I'd try to find the playlist on the Internet. This proved to be MUCH more difficult than I had thought but after a solid hour of searching I finally ran across the playlist on an obscure English site. And to my horror I discovered the name of the piece:

"Erotic" by Grieg

Well won't that look just great in the church bulletin. Is this really the name of the work?

Incidentally, I found another Lyric Piece during my search in the mp3 catalog that I really like: "Arietta" (op12 #1). Has anyone played this? It's very lovely.

I suppose you could just call it Greig Lyric Pieces, Book 3, Opus 43: No. 5 but these folks thought it was right for Sunday:

The Arietta is indeed a very nice piece, and not difficult to learn. Go ahead with it.

seems to be a Japanese site!!

Since I will go on vacation next week, I am looking forward to play as much and when I like, so I got a stock of pieces I want to try, besides the pieces I have to exercise for lessons. Some of the Lyric pieces are on top of the list.
