I just downloaded this off of the Sheet Music Archive and it really doesn't make any sense to me. It does not have a time signiture, nor are the bars split up into measures. How exactly do I go about playing this peice? I'm really lost here. Please help.

They're really a lot less complicated than they look. The pieces are basically in 4/4. Just follow the whole notes in the left hand to keep track of the missing "measures". Apparently Satie wrote the pieces this way because he really did want the performance not to sound too rhythmically precise.

Also, just for fun, look up the meaning of the performance notes that Satie wrote in the score in French. They are an absolute hoot!

I know I know! I'm just reading through the old topics that I've never read, and noticed this topic just now (almost a month after it was posted!) so I'm sorry for dragging old posts back up again!

Anyways, when I started practicing this piece with the flautist (back in June), I too noticed that there was no time signature and that some of the bar lines were missing. So I did what any normal musician would do and try and re-adjust the piece to suit some sort of time signature, but it didn't work so I guess Satie's judgement in this piece was not supposed to confuse musicians. When the piece was performed, however, it sounded beautiful. The simplicity of the piece (piano part at least) is far from boring and it is one of the most wonderful, simple pieces to play.

I'm really sorry again to all those people who don't like reading the old topics WAY after they've been posted!
