I very much like Mahler and never saw much in the sort of 1950's post ww2 criticism which saw him as overly long bombastic melodramatic etc...in fact i would say hes far less meldramatic than rachmoninov and while his pices are very long and often employ huge orchestras an choirs he oftem uses them in such a way that almost chamber like textures result...the 8th symphony is full of moments like these....anyways i think hes a fantastic composer and i always regretted the fact that as far as i know he wrote no piano music at all....seems to me that his esthetic, his expressionism and dense polyphony would work exceptionally well in a large scale piano work like a sonata. or mabey in a song setting like leider with piano acompaniment..but there arnt any...but i read the other day that mahler worked closly with someone, cant remember who and made piano reductions of all his symphonies they might be 1 piano 4 hands or 2 piano four hands, cant remember, but has anyone heard or seen these?

just curious, thanks

sandman,

Perhaps you should take a look at the catalogue of Edition Peters. They've printed Mahler's Adagietto from Symphony number 5, in a reduction for solo keyboard by Ian Flint. In their catalogue, it is numbered 7477. Enjoy it!
