So, after 6 months I've finally found a job. Unfortunately it requires me to work for nearly 12 hours six days a week, and people are sleeping when I get home. Not very much time for the piano except for one day of the week. Does anyone have any suggestions to help me keep up my skills? I'd say my ability level is just a bit more to the advanced side of intermediate.

Are you being prevented from practicing on work days because of others' sleeping schedules, or because there's simply no time for it anyway?

It might be possible to maintain your skill level with once-weekly practice, but I'm inclined to doubt it.

If you think you could put in even 30 minutes daily (assuming you could do it silently), you should definitely think about getting a digital and using headphones. Minimal practice time is far better than none, and a digital piano is far better than no piano at all.

A digital piano with earphones. Saved my life when I was in a situation like yours. Obviously, not at all an optimal thing to practice on, but if the choice is between that and nothing at all - I'll take the DP.

I have s Casio Privia PX-200 and it's the best digital piano I've ever owned. It has 88 weighted keys and 128-note polyphony. The PX-800 is a bit more advanced. You might want to check that one out. It's under $1000.

It's never a problem for evil folks like myself: I like keeping my neighbors from heck awake at night with a couple of 10 notes chords at fff intermixed with dissonance and a fully open lid.

Seriously, I have a digital piano just for this purpose - my nocturnal activities ... with the keyboard, that is.

Thanks for the input folks, it does look like I should look into a digital piano. Chihuahua, I'm glad I don't live next to you...lol.
