How early should I audition at schools? Does it increase my chances of getting in if I audition earlier than other people?

Timing isn't really that important. Just make sure you audition on or before the last official audition day - after that, and you run the risk of them having already filled all their slots.
Earlier can have an effect on scholarship money. Usually, earlier is better. Piano departments are typically given a set amount. Towards the end of the audition season, much of that money may already be earmarked for students who auditioned earlier in the season.
This is a generalization and does not apply to all schools at all times. Things always vary a bit from year to year and from school to school.
