Just out of curiousity.... is anyone a music major or did major in music? If so, where did you go to school? What songs did you play for auditons?

Amy:
If you are going to audition, I suggest you plan to prepare and play "pieces," not "songs." Above all, don't let an examiner hear you call them "songs."

I second both BruceD and Ryan's advise. It's not trivial.

I am a music education/ piano performance major at Eastern College. for my audition i played Chopin's peludes no. 4 & No. 22,(Op 28) and i played Pavane pour un infante defunte by Ravel. if you go for an audition, don't be suprised if they stop you in the middle of a piece- it does nOT mean that they think you are horrible and they don't want to hear any more. usually they have a time schedule, and they only need to hear snippets of peices to judge how good you are.

I'm at a Community majoring in music right now...but I'm going to audition for the Glenn Gould school in Canada in the future. =0) You can get in for free, they just judge by auditions.

Amy
Its free for anyone. As long as they pass the auditions. =0) I think you have to pay for living expenses though. Curtis Institute is also free but judge by auditions.

Mark- I've heard that Berklee is more of a jazz school than classical
Zelda- Is it next to impossible to get into like Curtis? : )

Berkeley is more jazz than classical. That's why I would never go there. They concentrate on modern music.
Curtis is impossible to get into? Ha. I'm not sure about GG Institute. But if it's free I can imagine that your talent must match the amount of admission that you're not paying.
In other words, you have to have 30,000 dollars worth of talent.
I'm going to get into the Glenn Gould though no matter what it takes. I can't even imagine the beautiful Glenn posters they have hanging all over the building =0). I'd be in heaven.
