Which are your favorite recordings of these works?

The first and justly famous Perlman/Ashkenazy of the major sonatas is superb, and probably unsurpassed. All of the major violinists both of the past and present have made recordings, so there are plenty to choose from. (Oistrakh is probably my fave, but it is really a matter of taste.) Somewhere there is a recording of the Spring Sonata Menuhin made in his old age with his son, which is especially moving.

I am partial to Kremer and Argerich's cycle.

I have an old set played by Fritz Kreisler, which I really enjoy.

I have the Kramer/Argerich, too. But, alas, since it's the only one I know, I can't say it's "the best." That, it seems, is what Beaver wants.

sigh!
