Horugel was manufactured by Samick, back in the late 70's until (I believe) the early 80's. As far as building quality pianos back then, it was all pretty new to Samick and I think they used that brand for a "learning tool" to try different building processes.
This scenario is not much different than the learning process Yamaha experienced in the 60's when they first brought acoustic pianos to the US. They had a severe moisture problem (too much moisture in the wood) from which they developed an early version of "destination seasoning" of the wood (using wood with LESS moisture for pianos coming to the US). It was a learning process from which they learned.
It is my understanding that the Horugel was a brand from which Samick learned as well. They obviously have made great strides since that time!
Hope that helps.

Hi, I bought a Horugel and think it's really an amazing instrument. Samick Musical Instruments made the piano after acquiring the name from the German maker. Here is a link to Samick history http://samick.co.kr/eng/about/company_2.php?playNum=1Features on my Horugel make it very unique. Treble strings are individually hitched. It has a 19 ply Falcon Wood ( European Beach ). Longer playing surface on the key-tops by about a 1/2" longer. All and all the piano is really well made as I have found all grand pianos that were made in South Korea. I have a specification sheet if anyone wants one emailed to them. Have fun
