Is this a fairly good cross section of what would be considered standard modern rep.
Barber Piano Sonata Corigliano Etude Fantasy Liebermen Gargoyles nd Impromptus Ginastera Piano Sonata No.1 Berg Piano Sonata Webern Variations
Anything to add?

Isnt there some Hindemith in the fold? I stayed fairly clear of 20th works in school, but did accompany a clarinet on a sonata by Hindemith.
Terrible to sight read. And I couldnt make heads or tails of it musically.

Hindemith's 3rd piano sonata is performed with some regularity, but he is really more known for his sonatas for piano and another instrument (piano and timpani, for piano and trumpet, etc.)

Hard to say what constitutes "modern," but here are some important works. Some get played, some don't...
Crumb - Makrokosmos I, Little Suite for Christmas Davidovsky - Synchronisms #6 Adams - China Gates, Phrygian Gates Bolcom - 12 New Etudes Lees - Fantasia Xenakis - Ervyali, Herma Griffes - Sonata Rzewski - Variations, North American Ballads

Nope, that's what most Bachelor of Arts and many performance majors do. Most of those in music education degrees end up having careers in music.

Among the moldy 20th century music that is called modern I would certainly include piano music of Poulenc and Milhaud. But there's lots of other stuff.

hmmm scary stuff. too bad I'm too stubborn to give up on being a music major. but I do have a plan! bachelors in performance and hoping to get my doctorate in pedagogy or musicology or something... one can never tell. there has to be a university somewhere that would hire me! *really doesn't want to sell insurance or work in a cubicle*
I really love the Shostakovich preludes and fugues. his third fugue in G in particular is really nice. and Crumb's suite for Christmas is really cool too.
