Ivo Pogorelich's doctor reports the pianist is in imminent danger of having a nervous breakdown and will not be concertizing for at least two years.

This is terrible news. I see that his PR people made this announcement in March. Has anything since been made known about his condition?

Quite a 'different' pianist who has a large following. His Scarlatti Sonatas CD under DG is not to be missed.

I heard his infamous Rachmaninoff 2nd two years ago. Turned it from 30 minutes into 55 minutes. One review was damning, the other said it was revalatory.

His Gaspard is one of the great recordings of the 20th century, up there with Stravinsky's Petrushka, IMHO.

I agree about Pogorelich's Scarlatti and Gaspard. His Scarbo is currently my favorite out there. Truly amazing playing. I also really enjoy his disk of Chopin Scherzi - something about the tone of his piano and the way he plays them really gets to me.
