Hi I'm new to this board. I am really weak in classical music but I'm good at hymns and improvising. Anyways I have almost finished Bach's Invention No 8 and I go to college next year (Fall 2009) I was wondering if this is an ok piece for an audition, I'm going to be majoring in Church Music at Pensacola Christian College but I don't know if this is a good audition piece.

Without knowing the specific requirements, its tough to say. If you were going for a full-blown performance degree, it is not nearly technical enough to be a substantial audition piece. But I am assuming (I could be wrong) that the church music degree may not need the most demanding repertoire for an audition. Working in your favor is that it is Bach, and just about any Bach works wonderfully in a church setting - while he didn't compose the inventions specifically for church, they can work.

As always, remember its not necessarily what you play at an audition, but how well you play it. If the piece meets their audition requirements, and you can play it well, then by all means go for it.
