I'm surprised Rachmaninoff has been mentioned 3 times already. I really do not like his interpretations, especially of his own works. For example... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7im-86V8p0w Maybe, it's just the recording quality but I really don't like Rachmaninoff as a pianist.

Nicely done, I agree with LaValse.

I had to add Shostakovich in, as I absolutely love hearing him play his own music.

Where's the wunderkind LL? Too bad Liszt and Chopin were pre-recording days!

Sviatoslav Richter (but of course!)
Emil Gilels Murray Perahia Radu Lupu Maurizio Pollini
I'm going to loose sleep over this. Agonising that I had to leave out the likes of Josef Hoffman and Dinu Lipatti only because of their limited scratchy recordings. And how about Kempf, Rosenthal .... arghhhh. Could I do a list of 10 please???

After hearing this (again), I can certainly see why he's been mentioned multiple times--gorgeous playing.
