Hi, folks:

Have any of you played this piece? My teacher is urging me to give it a shot.

Frankly it scares me a bit... it's so different from anything I've played before, and it moves right along fairly relentlessly. Of course, this could be the main reason why I should learn it!

Maybe I just need some reassurance... moving from Haydn's Sonatas to this piece is giving me the bends.

BTW, I actually DO like the Fantasia, just not sure if I can actually do it justice.

Thx
Nina

I like his First Concerto and the Sonata for 2 Pianos, but I've never heard this piece. I'll go to the music library tomorrow to take a look at it and see if we have a recording.

Brendan-- that would be great! If you get a chance to hear a recording, I'd love your opinion about whether it's "accessible" for your average listener, as well.

I realize that this is a highly subjective opinion, but still I'd be curious. I think there's enough melody and rhythm (dissonance and all) to make it an unusual, but still enjoyable, experience. But I certainly don't want to put in much time if no one wants to hear it.

I wish I had access to a good music library-- ASU has a decent music library but you have to have a university affiliation to use most of it, plus it's a bear to get parking!

Nina
