Has anyone else heard his record called Earl Wild: The Romantic Master? I just bought it and it contains only transcriptions(nine of them his own). If these were recorded when he was around 80, the recording is technically astonishing for someone that age.I don't think Horowitz could have pulled these pieces off at that age and I'm not sure Volodos or Pollini will be able to either if they are playing when they are 80. My absolute favorite track is the Mozart/Backhaus Serenade from Don Giovanni. I also greatly enjoy the Handel/Wild Harmonious Blacksmith Variations,Tchaikovsky?Pabst Paraphrase on Sleeping Beauty, Tchaikovsky/Wild Dance of the Four Swans, Strauss/Tausig One Lives but Once, and Churchill/Wild Reminiscences of Snow White. I have only heard Wild play live on one occasion. It was his famous all transcription recital at Carnegie Hall about twenty years ago The recital became the main part of Wild's disc in the Great Pianists of the 20th Century series.

Has anyone else heard any of his other recordings or heard him play live recently?

I have heard many of Earl Wild's recordings as he is my absolute favourite pianists. It is said that Horowitz was a great admirer Wild's technical ability and fingerwork. I personally love his romantic style, every piece he plays is full of intensity and passion. I have never heard him play live but i certainly would love to.
I have several of his recordings including his 4 rachmaninoff concertos and rhapsody. Plus his Cd with Paderewski and Scharwenka concerti. I also have "The Virtuosity of Earl Wild" in which he plays loads of Liszt's hardest music, and he pulls it off amazingly for an old man - better than anyone i have heard before. Earl wild is by far my favorite pianist!

Just found Earl Wild - The Romantic Master at the local Tower. 16.99 on Ivory classics, and the very same recording for 12.99 (on sale) on Sony! It really is a fine disc, and the changes he makes in the Handel variations are amazing. I expect to enjoy this disc for some time.
