He played a couple of Hyden Sonatas, Schumann Kinderszenen, Rachmaninoff Etudes Tableau and Corelli Variations. Great concert. It was technically flawless (almost), and he creates a very rich and beautiful sound (indeed, a very Russian sound).

Best wishes for Mr Kobrin! I listened to his competition playing. To me everything he did was quite beautiful but unfortunately a little too 'middle of the road' approach, IMHO. Yeah, very good stuff for competitions. I'm looking for his personal 'message or statement'. I'm still waiting...

I would liked to have heard his Kinderszenen. How did that go?

I managed to hear his fianl round recital at the Cliburn (the one with Gaspard and the rach2nd sonata)

It was a fine performance...a performance that typified the "russian" style of playing. ( ex fine technique, inner voices revealed, rubato, tone, etc)

It was great. Very beautiful playing. However, as AndrewG mentioned, it was very middle of the road - he didn't really do anything "special" with it.

I was more impressed with the 2 Haydn Sonatas he started out with. (saw him last week in Fresno)
His touch was immaculate, to play so fast so softly.
I thought his Kinderszenen was played beautifully but very very slowly in most parts.
Also, it wasn't the greatest piece to play right before intermission. Had to wake up my kids! smile
His Rach was bold though, no nodding off there.
