On my way back to school this evening, I heard an unfamiliar piano concerto on the radio. There were a few errands to do on the way, and each time I was afraid that the piece would end and the name would be announced while I was in the store. Fortunately, the host waited until I was already on the freeway to announce that the concerto was Franz (Xaver) Scharwenka's 1st Piano Concerto in B-Flat, performed by Marc-André Hamelin.

Wow! What music!

I didn't ride the bus, Bassio. I can listen to whatever I want in my own car. ;\)

Usually the bus drivers here play rock or rap or pop music, but there's one guy who always plays jazz, and another who always plays country. No classical, though.

Ok I keep hearing good stuff about this concerto so I'm going to have to give it a listen. Anyone got more recommendations on which performance?

Let me revive this thread. I am listening to Scharwenka's Piano Concerto # 4 as I type. What power and what emotion! Wonderful!!
