Anyone want to suggest some good recordings? It's one of my favorite pieces right now. I've got Richter and Rubinstein so far.

Richter is my favourite, but Pollini and Perahia are good too.

Richter's and Mei-Ting's.

Another vote for Richter. He's got the passion for this piece and the technique to keep it all from becoming a big, muddy mess.

I could upload the versions by Stephen Hough and Alfred Brendel if you want.

I'm not saying they're the best: those are just the only recordings of this piece that I own.

[Edit] Forget that, I was thinking of Schumann's Fantasy in C.

i had a version with schiff but it was either lost or stolen some time ago. i wouldn't exactly recommend it unless you want a different take on it. he plays it slower than any i've heard and his overall delievery is almost overdone. but the sound quality is superb and his tone is also excellent.
for now i just listen to my naxos cheapo with jando which is actually quite good.

With Richter and Rubinstein in your hands you probably don't need more. Maybe Pollini and Kissin.

I'm seeing about picking up the Kissin recording. Thank you for the suggestions!

He's weird... weird for me. I especially dislike his Beethoven interpretations.

I have Brendel, Pollini, Richter and Kempff.

Go only for Kempff and Richter. Their versions are the best.

I think Richter said that for him this piece was the most challenging in the piano repertoire(on the back of the record jacket).

I have never really like this piece much compared to many other Schubert works.

rach3, did you manage to get those Chopin Etudes by Pollini?

Not that I care, really.
