I use a Zoom H4 for recording the Mason & Hamlin -- and it works really well!

Julian,

As you might imagine, this topic comes up quite often. Let me suggest that you do a search (see the link at the top of the page) with the terms "record" and "piano". This will yield lots of information on both equipment and technique.

As Ed said, the Zoom H4 is pretty popular and makes pretty decent recordings considering its low cost.

Has anyone tried the Roland Edirol R-09 for piano? I've heard it's great ofr voice.

A friend of mine just loaned me his Tascam US-122, which is basically a preamp to plug in 2 mics to the computer via USB. I've been trying different combinations with the two mics I have and recording using Sound Forge. Right now, I get a very clean by dry sound. I know I can add reverb to it to give it the sound of being in a hall, but I'd like to get some actual room ambiance instead, so still fiddling with it.
