skeletony :
Thanks! I'm glad you like the pictures.
Actually, the Jensen artists benches aren't that "cushy"; they provide pretty firm support without being quite as hard as wood!

For the next 5 days only.... my current Yamaha C6 (complete with big castors) then comes the Angry Villager with his smaller Yamaha digital friend . I had just dusted it and forgot to put the lamp back on the music stand.... No, the radiator is never turned on... - Michael B.

Rock Peter, I have the Mason CC2 in my living room now, where you see it in the picture, and the Steinway B and Bechstein A in another room in the house. I formerly had them both in the room where you see them together in the pictures. The Kawai is in my bedroom for late night or early morning practicing. Curry, Bruce D and PoStTen, Gorgeous instruments all....you are very fortunate to be able to play on those. JPW101.....that was great....I laughed my A** off!!

I'm working on that one and #5 after being inspired to dig them out by the recent HR thread here.

This is my setup. Notice how the music sits low near the keyboard. It helps with no-line bifocals. The computer screen near the digital is also set low. I use MidiNotate and can play along with pieces as I read the music on the monitor. One good feature is that you can adjust the speed without changing the pitch. BTW, Midinotate converts midi files into sheet music and there are gobs of them on the internet. Thanks for sharing all of your pictures with us. Mike White

CC2,
Are those rugs under the pianos or canvas floorcloths? I really like them. They really play well with the ebony pianos ....as does the wall art.

CC2 & CL, lovely collection of pianos! When were they built? The Bechstein A has an older plate. Looks to be a late 1800s piano. The pianos in our house in NM are here . Our piano in Germany is top secret -- haven't made the announcement yet. Will do so when I have the pics to show. JP PS: Are those dehumidifiers behind the CC? What type are you using (brand, model)?

JPM, Thanks for your kind words about my babies. Here is the lowdown on them: The Bechstein is an "A", at 6'2" from 1876 (very good observation on your part). 3/4 plate with "Fishtail" case and Victorian Ornamentation on the legs, lyre and music desk-in high gloss black polyester finish. The Steinway "B", at 6'10 1/2", is from 1934 and has classic window pane legs. The Mason "CC2", at 9', is from 1923. All three of these pianos were totally remanufactured from the ground up with Bolduc soundboards and pinblocks, Mapes Gold Strings, Renner Action Parts and Renner Blue or Steinway Hammers. New pins and bridges as well. The Steinway and Mason are Satin Lacquer finishes. I have two large Sears 70 dehumidifiers and their largest evaporative humidifier around the pianos at all atimes, in addition to Dampp Chasers on each. That way I am able to maintain between 42 and 45% relative humidity at all times. The digital setup is a blast as well. That "Akoustic Piano" VST program I am running through the Kawai CP175 and the Muse Receptor has incredible samples of a Hamburg Steinway "D", a Bosie Imperial and a Bechstein "D", as well as a Steingraber Upright recorded at 10 dynamic levels!!! You cannot believe how realistic the sound is with this setup. I have to continue to thank everyone who has posted on this thread. Each piano is incredible that you all have posted, and I am really having fun knowing that your pride and joys are getting so much adoration from us all.

iNBi, Which lake is that? You may remember that Ryantim has some great views across the Sursee (near Lucerne) over to the Bernese Oberland from his piano room/home office whilst playing his Yamaha C2. Down at this end of Switzerland, it's not quite as bumpy; we are about 20kms from the lake, nestled in the vineyards by the Rhône. If I look over my right shoulder whilst playing I get this, across towards Le Salève (~1450m), an Alpine foothill next to Geneva: ... and in the other direction there are nice views up to the Jura ridge (~1600m) in neighbouring France: - Michael B.

lake lucern? The other nite at dinner my 6 yr. daughter made a Lake Lucern with her food. I asked her how she knew what Lake Lucern was and she said she had seen a movie about Switzerland at her school... not making fun of your gorgeous photos.. just some timely sharing.

iNBi: Its actually Lake Lucern!! The other side of it. It's simply amazing. I was initially going to hazard a guess at the Vierwaldstättersee, as some of the mountain shapes looked quite familiar, but given the wide choice of possible "lakes with mountains" there are around here, I thought I wouldn't risk it . I was last up that way in between Christmas and New Year when I went to visit Tim soon after he got his Yamaha, and before that I took my visitng mother last August to hear Mahler's 6th performed at the Lucerne Festival. That concert hall by the lake is incredible, as was the performance[1]. Lucerne is a 3hr drive from here, though it took us more like 6 to get back from Tim's, as it started snowing rather heavily as we got to Bern... Best regards, - Michael B. [1] Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra conducted by Mariss Jansons.

Whenever Lucerne is mentioned, I remember last summer's splendid meal by the water's edge and feeding the ducks. Sigh... Michael, do you ever play Liszt's les cloches de Genève? You should! Speaking of Swiss lakes, another favorite is Liszt's Au lac de Wallenstadt. If you've ever seen the surface of that lake, you'll know why he wrote groups of seven for the left hand! Oh. Stay on topic. Well, I don't have a photo of my home pianos - I'll have to do something about that!

Your pianos make me drewl! Whenever I play on a grand I get overwhelmed by the amount of tone, colouring, and weight response available to me!

OMG YOU ALL HAVE GRAND PIANOS!!
well, thats kinda rare here.. :S
We all practice on uprights, but I do NOT even have an upright. I do have, however, Yamaha P-80. And I don't have space nor money for a grand.

Gosh, what a pleasure it would be to play on some of those pianos. I'm certain they sound as beautiful as they look.
Up until about grade 3, I was learning on a Yamaha keyboard without weighted keys. I was lucky to get to play a real piano twice a week.
Now, I'm slightly better off. I have a Roland digital piano, with properly weighted keys and a tone that actually resembles that of a piano... Still, I would love to be able to wake up and practice on a beautiful grand piano.

But well-done, indeed. (I could take a picture of a picture of a piano, but that'd be about all I have to work with....)
