I'm going to hear Hélène Grimaud play the Brahms 1st Concerto with the Detroit Symphony today! The symphony is also performing Brahms's Second Symphony.

Nobody interested? Oh well. \:\)

Wow!!!

Hélène Grimaud is a fantastic pianist and musician. She played with such passion and power - I got the impression that the 35-year-old pianist was the greatest in the whole world! (Maybe, or maybe not, but I was really impressed.)

Her Bartok CD is really good, too (with Zimerman and Andsnes and Boulez), and she signed it for me. I suppose I should have expected a pianist to have strong hands, and I should have expected that forceful handshake. ;\)

So, now I am going to practice. Someday, I'll perform the Brahms 1st. But that day won't arrive if I don't practice more!

That day won't arrive for most of us! \:D

I hard her do the Schumann Concerto a few years ago and was very impressed. I think that either she has very good promoters or is simply the type of pianist who projects their naturally.

Did you like the Second Symphony?

I actually didn't get completely into the symphony. It was the second half, and I was still thinking about the concerto, and the new CD, and the autograph, and how beautiful Grimaud is, and why she decided to change her hair color again... \:D

I did like it very much - it was very musical, very dramatic - but I guess I just wanted to go home and practice!

The conductor was actually a very, very good musician. But his hand coordination was... interesting...

Heh, that's always a good sign. Give the symphony a real listen sometime, it's a great piece. The Third Symphony is also beautiful.

Would you recommend any particular recording? I'm not familiar with any of the symphonies.

Woah... Bartok 2nd... (Andsnes) It's one of the "Terrible Twos", right?

Isn't it great!? To be so inspired is a wonderful thing indeed. I felt the same way after hearing Martha Argerich and Nelson Freire last week.

It reminds me how IMPORTANT it is to go to recitals and hear other pianists. Sounds like this concert was a positive experience for you. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and impressions... that too inspires me! \:\) (Can't wait till tomorrow to practice!)
